In early January we were lucky enough to spend a few days in and around Lisbon. It wasn't difficult to enjoy the time we had, as the westernmost capital city of the European continent, immediately captured our hearts: the serenity and relaxed elegance of the Mediterranean coastal landscape was everywhere, even in the face of the highly changeable Portuguese winter, which went from spring sunshine to rain in a matter of minutes. Lisbon is an excellent destination for anyone, even with little children, as the city, which built for seven hills, with its rich history, beautiful natural and architectural environment and neighbouring towns, has a wealth of attractions can be reach an easy and very economical way thanks to the excellent local public transport system, and even the airport can be reached by metro for a single fare, which is not the case everywhere, let's say.

Based on our preliminary information, we knew that street art is a very popular genre in the city, which we often tend to belittle by referring to a kind of “scribble”, but once again it turned out that it's not the box that matters, but what we fill it with. We saw a lot of works that not only disfigure their surroundings, but add to them, and, as well as adding vibrant, playful colours to the everyday lives of the inhabitants. Moreover they often function as real works of art, such as the installations of Bordalo II (Artur Bordalo, Lisbon-born artist) with that huge animal figures made from all kinds of rubbish, what we can describe as the university-level of junk salvage.
